Iran Parl. speaker arrives in Turkey on Wednesday

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Turkish city of Istanbul on Wednesday evening, December 8, to participate in meeting of the 16th Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference.

Upon his arrival to Turkish capital, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf Iranian Parliament Speaker was welcomed by Osman Nuri Gulacar, Chairman of the Turkey-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Referring to the significant position of Iran and Turkey in the region, Nuri emphasized the development of relations between the two countries and said, "It is hoped that the two countries can take strides to improve relations by 2023.”

Parliaments of the two countries play a very important role in promoting bilateral relations, the Turkish lawmaker underlined.

Iranian parliament speaker, for his part, pointed to the parliamentary relations between Iran and Turkey and stressed that relations between the two countries, especially Iranian and Turkish parliaments, are at a good and satisfactory level, and it is hoped that this will lead to further promotion of cooperation, Mehr News Agency reported.

According to the Spokesman of the Iranian Parliament's Presiding Board Nezameddin Mousavi, Ghalibaf will also hold bilateral meetings with parliament speakers of some Islamic countries who attend the conference.

Parliamentary diplomacy and developing economic relations with neighboring countries with the support of economic activists and the private sector are among the issues emphasized by the Iranian parliament, Mousavi said.

Holding meetings with Iranian and Turkish businessmen and facilitating economic relations and supporting the private sectors of the two countries will be an important part of this parliamentary trip.

The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States is composed of the parliaments of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation members states. It was established in Iran on 17 June 1999, with its head office situated in Tehran.
