Clashes erupt between security forces, uncaptured ISIS militants in Hasaka

Clashes broke out between Internal Security Forces (ISF) and five Islamic State (ISIS) militants who were hiding in a house near a school in Hasaka’s Ghweiran neighborhood on Saturday, January 29, Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) affiliated media said.

One of the militants was killed, Hawar News Agency said, adding the ISF and SDF are continuing clearing operations in the neighborhoods of Ghweiran and al-Zuhour, days after Kurdish forces quelled a break-out at al-Sinaa prison, which houses thousands of ISIS members.
Three ISIS members were also captured by the ISF in Ghweiran on Saturday, Hawar News reported.
Periodic clashes are reported in Hasaka amid an uneasy calm, North Press Agency said on Saturday.
Rojava Information Center noted while the situation in the northeast Syrian city had become relatively calmer, the presence of heavy fire and coalition aircraft flying overhead the city was reported on Saturday morning.
Between 60 and 90 ISIS militants remain barricaded in al-Sinaa prison some distance from the clashes, refusing the SDF’s calls to surrender, North Press stated.
The SDF regained full control of al-Sinaa prison on Wednesday following days of intense clashes.
