Baghdad, Tehran to increase economic exchanges: Iraqi PM

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi emphasized that withn the framework of mutual interests of the Iranian and Iraqi nations, the countries will expand their economic interactions.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the Iraqi prime minister referred to the historical, cultural and religious relations between the Iranian and Iraqi nations, and said that in his meetings in Iran ways for further improvement of comprehensive relations were discussed.
He said that Iraq’s relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are very significant, adding, "Today we agreed to further expand our economic ties, in the framework of safeguarding the mutual interests of the two nations."
Al-Kadhimi, meanwhile, referred to an agreement for facilitating the pilgrimage trips of the Iranians of Imam Hussain’s holy shrine during a certain period of Arbaeen (40th day after martyrdom anniversary).
The Iraqi prime minister said that another part of his consultations with the Iranian officials were on the regional challenges, in which both sides were agreed on the need for restoration of regional peace and stability, IRNA reported.
Al-Kadhimi said that in his talks with President Raisi support for the continuation of ceasefire in Yemen, was stressed, that needs to be liked with the end of the war against that war-stricken and much suffered nation.
He also said that joint efforts to counter that food security that is endangered due to the Ukraine war, too, was among the reached agreements.
