American economic pressure is only tool to prevent Turkey from attacking Syrian Kurds: expert

Wladimir van Wilgenburg told the Carnegie Foundation that American pressure and economic sanctions are the only means to prevent possible Turkish ground operations in areas controlled by the Syrian Kurds.

In an interview with the Carnegie Foundation, Wladimir van Wilgenburg, an analyst of Kurdish issues, warned that Turkey's ground operations against the Syrian Kurds may be carried out at last by next spring, when the elections are close to being held in this country.

This Dutch analyst emphasized that America can prevent this attack by putting economic pressure and threatening Turkey with sanctions because Turkey's economy is in crisis and cannot withstand more pressure.

He believes that both the United States and Russia are against Turkey's ground operations against the Syrian Kurds.

The Kurdish issues analyst emphasized that Russia uses Turkey's pressure on the Syrian Kurds as a tool to bring the Kurds and the Syrian central government closer together. He believes that both Turkey and the Syrian central government intend to end the alliance between the Syrian Kurds and the American government.

He warned that Turkey may capture the two cities of Kobani and Manbij in a possible ground operation.
