Sunday off in Iraq to honor victory over terrorism

The prime minister of Iraq announced that Sunday, December 10, would be a national holiday in honor of the victory over Daesh terrorist group.

“The victory necessitates that we be ready for any war because Daesh is not over yet,” Haider al-Abadi said in a short statement.

He said, “Fighting corruption is the natural follow-up to fighting Daesh; Iraq has no room for the corrupt.”

Thanking Iraq's top religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Sistani for issuing his historical fatwa and changing the war conditions in favor of Iraq by mobilizing the Iraqi people, al-Abadi said, “The history will record religious authority’s role as the savior of Iraq in the hardest of times.”

He added that provocative discourse should be avoided.
