U.S. appoints James Jeffery as special envoy to anti-IS coalition

<p style="text-align: left;">The White House has introduced James Jeffery, Special U.S. envoy to Syria Affairs, as Washington&amp;rsquo;s new envoy to the anti-Islamic State (IS) coalition.

Jeffery was appointed to the post after former U.S. envoy to the coalition, Brett McGurek, resigned from his post in protest to President Donald Trump&rsquo;s surprising decision to withdraw U.S. forces from war-torn Syria.

Some experts stated they expected Jeffery to resign from his post the way McGurk and U.S. defense minister resigned from their post in protest to the Trump decision.

"With this additional responsibility, Ambassador Jeffrey will lead and coordinate U.S. Department of State relations with the Global Coalition to defeat IS and Department efforts to implement President Trump&rsquo;s announcement of a responsible U.S. troop withdrawal from Syria," said Robert Palladino in a statement.
