Barzani said at the Erbil International Book Fair on Wednesday, April 3, that the Kurdistan Parliament would start by electing a president and then move on to forming a new cabinet, NRT reported.
Barzani stated: “We gave opportunities to the parties to form [the new cabinet of] the Kurdistan Regional Government and enough opportunity was given to everybody.”
“From this moment, we won’t wait any more, but we will do our duty,” he added.
His comments come shortly before the Kurdistan Parliament convenes to hold a second reading for a bill that would amend the presidency law.
The session was scheduled to be held on Tuesday, but Speaker Vala Farid postponed it to Wednesday at 3 p.m.
The bill under consideration was jointly submitted by the KDP, the Change Movement (Gorran), and the reserved ministry representatives.
The Kurdistan Parliament suspended the presidency law in June 2018.
A new government cabinet has not been formed due to a lack of agreement between the KDP and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), despite a deal between KDP and Gorran.
