PUK welcomes deal with KDP on government formation

<p style="text-align: left;">The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) welcomed its deal with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on the formation of the new government in Kurdistan Region and is satisfied with the positions that it will receive in the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The were no outstanding issues between the KDP and the PUK regarding Kirkuk, as it had been settled during an earlier agreement last month, PUK Spokesperson Latif Sheikh Omer said in a statement on Wednesday, April 3.

"We have reached a common understanding with the KDP about the PUK's shares in the new cabinet," he said.

The deal is set to be finalized and signed in the coming days, he further stated.

A PUK source told NRT earlier on the day that it had come to an agreement with the KDP that would enable the formation of the new government.

The breakthrough came following a phone call between KDP leader Masoud Barzani and PUK First Deputy Secretary General Kosrat Rasul, according to Sheikh Omer.
