US to exclude Syrian Kurds from safe zone: envoy

<p style="text-align:left">US Special Envoy to Syria James Jeffery said on Monday that his country would coordinate with Turkey to make sure the Syrian Kurdish forces would not create a threat to Turkey in the establishment of a safe zone in the region.

Turkey views the Kurdish forces in Syria as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) which is designated as a "terrorist organization" by Ankara.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip, therefore, has repeatedly threatened to attack the Syrian Kurdish fighters sooner or later.
According to a report by Anadolu Agency, Jeffery made a similar comment last month where he noted that the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) would be out of the free zone.
"And we would work with Turkey to ensure that the zone remains free of any threat to Turkey and introduces stability," as cited by Anadolu Agency.
