Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the possibility of a sudden attack by his country's army on Shingal in northern Iraq, Hurriyet daily reported.
Answering questions about the possibility of a joint military operation with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region against PKK forces in Sinjar, Erdogan told reporters after Friday prayers that "There is always the possibility of a joint operation, but it will not be announced in advance. You know my motto; 'One night we will attack suddenly.'"
Following Turkish Defense Minister's Hulusi Akar's visit to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the possibility of a joint Turkish-Iraqi-Kurdish military operation against the PKK has been raised. Akar told a news conference at the Turkish consulate in Erbil that his country was determined to work with Baghdad and Erbil to destroy the PKK.
It is unclear whether Baghdad and Erbil have agreed to cooperate with Turkey in a large-scale military operation against the PKK.
