Turkish FM is in Baghdad to discuss ties with officials

<p style="text-align: left;">Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived in Baghdad on Sunday, January 21, to hold talks with the Iraqi officials.

According to NRT Cavusoglu is expected to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabour as well as a number of Turkmen lawmakers.

His visit came after an invitation from Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari to discuss the relations between both countries.

Earlier this month, Turkey&rsquo;s foreign minister said a delegation from the Turkish government would visit Baghdad to discuss possible mediation between Erbil and Baghdad.

Relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq hit their lowest point in the aftermath of the referendum held by the Kurdistan Region, which saw 92.7 percent of voters say &ldquo;yes&rdquo; to independence.
