French foreign minister accompanied by a French delegation made the remarks in a meeting with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani in Erbil on Monday, February 12.
According to NRT a KRG statement said Le Drian expressed his hope that talks which have resumed between the region and Baghdad would have a good result to resolve the issues between the two sides.
He also said Paris would help and encourage Erbil and Baghdad to reach a solution, the statement read.
KRG premier, for his part, acknowledged French President Emmanuel Macron for breaking the political and diplomatic siege on the Kurdistan Region after a high-level delegation visited Paris after the referendum on independence.
“The Kurdistan Region won’t forget the support and the assistance of France,” Barzani added.
Le Drian visited Iraq on Monday to discuss the war-torn country's reconstruction with Iraqi officials after Baghdad declared victory against the Islamic State (IS).
Le Drian arrived in the Kurdistan Region through Erbil International Airport following a trip to Baghdad where he met with the senior Iraqi officials.
