Iraqi council sets date for provincial elections

<p style="text-align:left"> Iraq&amp;rsquo;s Council of Ministers set a date on Tuesday, February 27, for the country&amp;rsquo;s provincial elections to be held in 2018, The date was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi.

December 22 this year was appointed by the Cabinet as the date for provincial elections to be held, NRT reported.
&ldquo;The Cabinet reviewed preparations for parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 May 2018, and approved the establishment of a ministerial committee, reporting directly to the Prime Minister, to coordinate government support for Iraq&rsquo;s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC),&rdquo; the official website of the Iraqi government said.
The last election took place in April 2014 when the State of Law alliance of former prime minister Nuri al-Maliki won most of the votes but fell short of an overall majority.
