KDP, PUK could deal on Kurdistan Region, Iraq presidency posts: official

<p style="text-align: left;">A leading member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) stated that the party and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) are likely to make deal on the Kurdistan Region and Iraq presidency posts.

The KDP leader led the region as president and a member of the PUK, Fuad Masoum, was appointed as Iraq president in the former Iraqi government.

Polla Talabani told Baghdad al-Yaum that a deal was signed between the two psties in 2005, according to which a member of the KDP would be elected as the region&rsquo;s president and a member of the PUK would be elected as Iraq president, adding that the two parties are likely to trade the posts.

It is worth mentioning that London-based Asharq al-Awsat daily released a report about tensions in the region over the posts.
