US won’t oppose Turkey likely operation into Qandil: experts

<p style="text-align: left;">Two Turkey military experts believe the U.S. would not go against the likely Ankara operation into Qandil Mountains in Kurdistan Region; the main base of the Kurdistan Workers&amp;rsquo; Party (PKK).

A military expert and a former Turkish major official, Haldon Solmaz Turk told Xinhua that Washington has no problem with Turkey limited operation into Qandil but would oppose Ankara extended operation into the PKK base.

Meanwhile Elhan Sulmaz, an international relations professor says U.S. strategy in the region is within the control of regions under the control of Syrian Kurds and therefore the U.S. would not oppose a Turkey extended operation into Qandil.

Some Turkish officials have claimed the U.S. would accompany Ankara in the operation.

Sulmaz added that the PKK has taken its main forces into Syria and Shingal in northern Iraq and therefore Qandil is not that significant for the PKK, stressing that Turkey has the chance to attack Qandil ahead of June 24 presidential elections and the ruling party can win the poll.

He further added that Turkey is not seeking to conduct an extended operation into Qandil and is merely seeking to increase the ruling party chance in the election.
