The Spokesman for IHEC, Lais al-Jabir said in a written statement that the recount of votes which suspected to have been rigged in the provinces of Musana and Diwanyah come to an end Wednesday evening.
Iraq’s electoral commission introduced electronic voting and vote counting to eliminate electoral fraud for the parliamentary election on May 12. Several parties, however, complained about the new system.
The Iraqi parliament approved a third amendment to the election law on June 6, ordering a nationwide manual recount of votes for the parliamentary election because of widespread reports of fraud.
The manual recount of votes began on Monday in Sulaimani and according to results of those ballot boxes that have been recounted, votes of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have decreased by 50 percent in the governorate.
