The regional Ministry of Interior in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq, confirmed that several rockets were fired in Erbil on Monday evening.
In a statement, Blinken said the attack killed one civilian contractor and injured several members of the U.S.-led coalition.
As it stands, there are currently 2,500 U.S. troops in Iraq to support Iraqi forces in battles against remnants of the so-called Islamic State, mainly for training and advisory purposes.
"I have reached out to Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to discuss the incident and to pledge our support for all efforts to investigate and hold accountable those responsible," Blinken said.
The Iraqi Prime Minister has ordered a joint investigation with the Kurdish regional authorities into the rocket attack.
Over the years, Baghdad airport, US military bases and the U.S. embassy in the Green Zone have been targeted by mortar and rocket attacks.
