Iraqi PM predicts Baghdad would send KRG share of budget soon

Bagdad will send the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) budget share soon, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi predicted on Monday, May 10.

He made the remarks at a time that technical problems that have so far prevented cash transfers from Baghdad to Erbil.
Erbil has not sent any oil or customs revenue to Baghdad either, NRT reported.
On Saturday, Rapporteur for the Council of Representatives’ Finance Committee Ahmed Safar called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to send a technical committee to Baghdad in order to work out problems with the budget.
The KRG is supposed to receive 9.5 trillion Iraqi dinars ($6.5 billion), which will be disbursed in monthly increments, in return for submitting 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day to Iraq's oil marketer SOMO for export.
The federal government will be able to cut off funds in the event of non-compliance.
Beyond the budget, Kadhimi said that trust needs to be built between the two sides in order to solve problems in the disputed areas, saying that a delegation will visit Erbil soon for talks.
The disputed areas are a belt of territory that is claimed by both Erbil and Baghdad that stretches from Nineveh through Kirkuk to Diyala. Islamic State (ISIS) militants are able to exploit its uncertain control and the rugged terrain to launch attacks against both civilians and military units.
