Erdogan calls for urgent measures to control social media

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for urgent steps to control social media in the country.

Social media platforms are being used to spread lies and misinformation, Erdogan said in a televised speech to members of his governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) at the parliament in Ankara on Wednesday.

Democracies across the world, including Europe and the United States, are facing the same problems, Erdogan said.

Many are looking for ways to address them through legal measures and Turkey must do the same, the president added.
