The CKC statement on November 6, was in reaction to a US statement over the Wednesday clashes between the fighter linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) with the Peshmerga forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Amedi district.
The CKC said that PKK-affiliated fighters tried their best to avoid clashes but “KDP forces’ insistence” on pursuing an operation in Gare region led to some casualties.
On Wednesday, a Peshmerga member died and four others wounded in two roadside bomb blasts in the vicinity of Duhok’s Chmanke sub-district.
The US State Department said in a statement on Thursday that it strongly condemns the attacks by “the terrorist PKK organization” against Peshmerga forces in Duhok’s Amedi district.
It extended its support to Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in their efforts “to root out terrorism”.
KCK described the statement “a sheer provocation” which includes “totally baseless accusations and aims at distorting the truth about the events.”
It added that instead of criticizing the Turkish military’s invasion in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, the Spokesperson gives full supports to and encourages them, NRT reported.
“We call on all the Kurdish people, especially our people in South Kurdistan from all walks of life to be aware against such provocative statements and step up their attempts to secure calm in Kurdistan,” read the statement.
Iraqi government denounced the “attacks” by the PKK in a statement on Thursday, saying it rejects “the attack that took place inside Iraqi territory, and promised it an assault on the country's sovereignty, pledging to take measures that would put an end to the attacks that are a violation of the security and sovereignty of the country.”
Tensions have escalated between the PKK and KDP lately.
Late on Wednesday, the Press Center People's Defense Forces (HPG), which is the PKK’s military wing, said that their forces previously warned a Peshmerga force affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) not to approach one of their camps in Gara Mountain in Duhok’s Chamanke sub-district.
The PKK recently accused the KDP of military build-ups in the vicinity of its outposts in Gara and Metina areas of Duhok’s Amedi district, while KDP-affiliated security forces blamed the PKK for the recent murder of a border official near Amedi.
