According to Kurdpress, in order to discuss the issue of "forming the supreme council of political parties", a delegation of the Kurdistan Justice Jamaat, headed by Abdul Sattar Majid, visited the political office of the Kurdistan Popular Party in Erbil.
These consultations are carried out following the meeting of Masoud Barzani and Bafel Talabani, in which there were discussions about the establishment of a Kurdish political council. A council similar to the "Coordination Framework" of the Shiites and the "National Political Council" of the Sunnis.
However, the details of this project are still not clear, and it has not been determined whether this council will only include the parties of the Patriotic Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which are at odds over the presidential post, or whether it will also include other currents and political figures outside of these two parties.
At the same time as this issue was raised in the secret meeting of the leaders of the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union, other political currents have also started their internal discussions. In the meantime, some express concern that the formation of such a council may replace the official institutions of the Kurdistan region, especially the parliament.
In this regard, Mohammad Haji Mahmoud, Secretary General of the Kurdistan Social Democratic Party, has presented a plan to the political parties to form the "High Council of National and Patriotic Interests in the Kurdistan Region."
He emphasized that this council will be a transnational and non-party institution and will consist of two groups:
The first group: experts and specialists who do not have a decision-making role and whose duty is to prepare political projects.
The second group: leaders of political parties who will be responsible for making decisions about projects and implementing approvals.
