According to Kurdpress, the Iraqi Kurdistan Region team of the American organization CPT announced that despite the peace process and cessation of conflicts between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to build new military bases, strengthen old bases, build military roads, blow up mountains and cut down trees in the forests of the Kurdistan Region. This has raised concerns about the future of the peace process in Türkiye.
According to Khandan, the Iraqi Kurdistan region team of the CPT organization announced on Tuesday in a report that on February 6, the Turkish army blew up a part of the hills and mountains near Reshawa area on the border of Deirlok district of Amedi county and cut a large part of the forests around this valley in order to build a road and a military gate.
In this report, it is mentioned that the Turkish army has completed the military road project to connect the bases and create a "security buffer zone" in the areas (Zap, Avashin, Matina, and Barwari Bala) and the gate of this buffer zone is Reshawa area. He has also built three large new military bases on the border of Amedi city, which include a hospital, a training and training center, and an artillery unit.
According to this report, on February 7, two Turkish military helicopters flew over Mt. Matina and in the framework of a military exercise, in coordination with the newly established military bases, they dropped war bullets on the mountain. Also, on February 13, Turkish artillery shelled the mountains (Khonira) on the border of Sidkan city in Erbil province three times.
The CPT organization also announced that the explosion of the hills and mountains of Reshawa region destroyed two significant historical works of the region, one of which is Dushaw Bridge, whose construction dates back to the Abbasid Caliphate. In addition, among the 1192 villages that were affected by the bombing and military operations of the Turkish army, only the residents of five villages were able to return to their villages as a result of the peace process.
According to the CPT report, in 2025, the Turkish army carried out 1,718 attacks and bombings against the Kurdistan Region, of which 1,426 were after the announcement of the peace process. Also, 9 civilians have been victims of these attacks and bombings.
The Iraqi Kurdistan region team of the CPT organization expressed its concern about the expansion of the military operations of the Turkish army, the construction of new bases, the strengthening of old bases, the construction of military roads, the explosion of mountains and the cutting of forest trees, and at the same time, it asked Turkey and the PKK to take more serious steps to advance the peace process and withdraw from civilian residential areas.
It is worth mentioning that at the end of 2024, a new process of peace began in this country with the initiative of Dolat Baghceli, the head of the National Movement Party (MHP) in the Turkish Parliament. After a series of meetings, Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the PKK, on February 27, 2025, called for the dissolution of this party and transition to political and democratic activities in Türkiye.
In response, the PKK held its 12th Congress in May 2025 and decided to dissolve itself. Also, on July 11, as a sign of goodwill, a group of 30 PKK forces laid down their weapons and then burned them. In addition, on October 26 last year, the PKK announced its complete withdrawal from Türkiye.
In the latest action, the Commission for Democracy, Brotherhood and National Unity approved its final report in its last meeting last week, which was accompanied by the dissatisfaction of the Kurds; Because in this report, the issue of Kurds is placed in the framework of "terrorism" and its long-term solution is dependent on legal reforms and implementation of the promised rights.
