Iraqi Parliament Speaker announces date for presidential election session

Iraq and Kurdistan Region service – The Iraqi Parliament's Presidium announced on Monday that it has set Saturday, April 11, as the date for the Parliamentary session to elect a new Iraqi president.

According to Kurdpress, the meeting also discussed in detail the issue of electing a president and the importance of adhering to the constitution in this regard and ending the political deadlock, given the country's current security and economic conditions.

According to this statement, the Presidency of the Iraqi Parliament decided to set Saturday, April 11, as the date for the Parliamentary session to elect a new Iraqi president, and called on all Parliamentary factions to fulfill their responsibilities in implementing the constitution and forming a government capable of facing challenges.

This is while Massoud Barzani sent a letter to the Coordination Framework, calling for the postponement of the Iraqi presidential elections and emphasizing the need for further dialogue to reach political agreement.

It is worth noting that, according to the political custom prevailing in Iraq, the Prime Minister is elected from among the Shiites, the President from among the Kurds, and the speaker of Parliament from among the Sunnis.
