Iraqi News Agency (INA) announced on Thursday, July 14, the agreement was signed between Jasim al-Falahi, the minister of environment of Iraq, and Ali Salajegheh, the head of Iran’s environmental protection organization.
INA provided no further details on the memorandum or where it was signed.
The Iraqi government announced earlier that it had begun serious conversations with Iran regarding climate change and its effects on water resources and desertification.
While dust storms are common in Iraq, they are becoming more frequent and severe. Experts have blamed climate change, desertification and drought.
