US failed to topple Syrian government: Iranian commander

<p style="text-align: left;">US plans to topple Syrian government was unsuccessful, the Commander of the Supreme National Defense University said.

Addressing a ceremony held in Supreme National Defense University on Saturday, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said the US decision to withdraw from Syria is official declaration of a big defeat.

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group had been created by the US, but when it faced Syrians' resistance, the US forces presence was meaningless, he added.

Referring to the US walkaway from Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said the Americans started sanctioning Iran 40 years ago.

Launching 1388 (2009) sedition, different terrors and cultural invasion were among other measures taken by enemies against Iran, Vahidi noted.

Despite sanctions against Iran's defensive power, today Iran is a powerful country in the field of defense, he reiterated.
