<p style="text-align:left">UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Jeremy Hunt said on Thursday that his government is committed to working with the future Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), sending a congratulatory message to Masrour Barzani on his election as the PM-designate of the Kurdistan Region.

Hunt pointed out that the UK is "proud" of its ties with the Kurdistan Region, hailing the role of the region in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) in the past few years.
"The UK is proud to have had a historic relationship with the Kurdistan Region and to have stood by the Iraqi and Kurdish people in the fight against Da&rsquo;esh," Hunt said, using the Arabic acronym for the IS, as cited by Kurdistan 24.
"We are committed to working with you and your government to build peace and prosperity, promote economic reform and effective governance, and support good relations between Erbil and Baghdad," he continued, adding that "I wish you much success in your new role."
Kurdistan Region's Parliament named Barzani as PM-designate with 87 votes out of 97 present at the session. He was soon tasked by Kurdistan President Nechirvan Barzani to form the cabinet within 30 days.
