PUK co-president says Erbil and Baghdad would hopefully reach agreement on Thursday

Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-President Lahur Sheikh Jangi said on Monday, March 1, that he has high hopes that an agreement will be reached between Baghdad and Erbil regarding their outstanding disagreements this coming Thursday.

During a ceremony commemorating Kurdish politician and Change Movement (Gorran) co-founder Qadir Haji Ali, Sheikh Jangi said that Erbil and Baghdad “must reach” an agreement.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) had sent delegations to Baghdad at least sixteen times since last year, but has not officially announced an agreement yet.
On Sunday, the KRG representative in Baghdad Fars Esa claimed that the delegation has reached agreement with the Council of Representatives’ Finance Committee, but warned that a number of political parties from the other ethno-sectarian blocs were trying to increase pressure on Erbil at the last minute.
