Badran Chia Kurd, the executive deputy-head of the North and East Syrian Autonomous Administration, said about the possible new US policy after Joe Biden took power as president months ago that "the US is studying to know what policy it should pursue in Syria and Iraq, and for this reason it is not yet clear what policy the Americans are pursuing."
"We are working with the United States to combat terrorism, and we urge them to take this issue seriously," he said.
Mr. Chia Kurd told KurdPress that: "It is necessary for the United States to enter into a political relationship with the self-ruling authority so that it can participate in the Syrian-Syrian talks. If the self-ruling administration does not enter the political negotiations, the Syrian political process will end into no avail."
"We hope that the new US administration will make up for [former US President Donald] Trump's mistakes and play a positive role in Turkey's aggression against Afrin, Gri Spi and Sari Kani, as well as the violation of the rights of the Kurdish people in these areas."
Badran Chia Kurd reminded that the United States should play a more active role in the Syrian issue and adopt a clearer diplomacy in the face of the Astana summit, which has inflicted great damage to the Syrian people and the Kurds.
"The Kurdish self-ruling administration has also suffered a lot due to US sanctions against Syria, and it is necessary for the new US administration to find a suitable mechanism for this issue; because five million people live in this region and are under the negative impact of the sanctions. On the other hand, the Syrian border crossings in Tel Cocar are blocked by Russia and basic stocks and medical goods are not allowed to enter the self-ruling administration, which has put a lot of pressure on the people in the region," Mr. Chia Kurd further said.
"This change in US administration is politically important, both domestically and internationally, and shows that the United States wants to overcome the problems ahead," said the Kurdish official about the change in the US policy as a new president has taken power in the White House.
He further noted that: "These changes can have different effects inside and outside the United States, and may cause changes in the Middle East, and especially in the case of Iran's nuclear program."
The official added: "Regarding the US-Turkey relationship, there are differences between the two sides, which will be pursued in Biden period in accordance with the US law and national interests of the country; just as the two sides have fundamental differences over the F-35 and the S-400 missile defense shield."
He ultimately reminded: "The era of personal relations between [Turkey President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan and the US president is over, and Biden is both an old diplomat and also takes care for the strategic interests of the United States."
