Jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan meets brother in prison

<p style="text-align:left">The jailed leader of the Kurdistan Workers&amp;rsquo; Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalan and two other PKK-member inmates on Imrali Island have been allowed to meet with their family members in prison for the first time since Aug. 12, 2019 during the Eid al-Adha.

Ocalan met with his brother Mehmet, whereas two other inmates, Omer Hayri Konar and Veysi Aktas, met with their relatives.
The announcement was made by Asrin Law Office, representing the inmates.
The last time Ocalan and two other prisoners were allowed to see their family members was in August during the Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
Ocalan has been serving a life sentence on the Imrali Island prison since his capture in 1999, Duvar reported.
He met with his brother Mehmet for the first time in more than two years in January of 2019, after a hunger strike led by a deputy of the pro-Kurdish Peoples&rsquo; Democratic Party (HDP) against his prison conditions.
Jailed HDP lawmaker Leyla Guven launched a hunger strike on Nov. 8, 2018 to pressure the Turkish government into allowing lawyers and family members to visit Ocalan.
Guven&rsquo;s action was supported by several prisoners across Turkey in a show of solidarity. The HDP ended her hunger strike in May of 2019 after Ankara let Ocalan meet his lawyers for the first time since 2011.
