According to the US State Department website, US Assistant Secretary of State for Iraqi Affairs David Copley addressed a press conference on the Turkish invasion in Iraq under the pretext of the PKK presence.
"We would like to see Iraq and Turkey work closely together to address concerns about the presence of the PKK forces in northern Iraq," he said.
"Respect for Iraqi sovereignty is important, but so are Turkey's security concerns, and it has legitimate security interests," he said.
"We think that the best way to resolve this issue is for the two sides to work together, and we hope that we can also play a role in achieving this goal," he said.
A US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Joey Hood also suggested that Turkish-Iraqi cooperation on the PKK should begin in Sinjar region.
He suggested that Turkey and Iraq, and possibly the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, work together with the help of the United States and its allies on the withdrawal of militants, including the PKK, from Sinjar and the establishment of a civilian administration in the region that pleases the Yazidis.
