Qubad Talabani stated that the KRG wants the return of the Kurdish forces to Kirkuk to cooperate with Iraqi army in ensuring security and stability of the disputed province, stressing that efforts are underway to reach an agreement in this regard.
According to Shafaq News, Mr. Talabani's office issued a statement saying that the head of the KRG delegation met with US Ambassador to Iraq and Washington Consul General to Erbil, Matthew Toller, to discuss the latest developments in the negotiations between the KRG and the government and the situation of the Kurdish areas outside the Kurdistan Region.
According to the statement, in another part of the meeting, the two sides also discussed US assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Qubad Talabani also stressed the position of the Kurdistan Region regarding the return of Peshmerga forces to Kirkuk, especially the K-1 military base, and stated that in talks with Baghdad, this issue was discussed with federal government officials with the aim of cooperation and participation of Peshmerga forces in establishing stability and peace in these areas.
According to the statement, Talabani noted that Baghdad and Erbil are finding appropriate grounds and solutions for finding a way for the return of the Peshmerga forces to Kirkuk.
