US says it won't interfere in Turkey elections

The spokesman of the White House said the fate of Turkey will be determined by the people of the country, and that the United States does not want to comment on the country's election candidates.

During a press conference at the White House, John Kirby, coordinator of the American National Security Council, commented on his country's position regarding the Turkish presidential and parliamentary elections, which will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Praising the democratic institutions of Turkey, he told journalists: It is the people of Turkey who must decide in determining their own destiny. It is clear that we do not comment on the elections or the candidates.

John Kirby added: The decision should be left to the Turkish people. Democracy in Turkey is old and I think we should value and respect it.
