According to Kurdpress, the US Central Command announced that it has started an organized mission to transfer prisoners affiliated with the ISIS terrorist group from detention centers in northeastern Syria to Iraq. According to Centcom, in the first phase of this operation, 150 ISIS prisoners were transferred from one of the detention centers in Haskeh province to safe places in Iraq.
According to Centcom's official statement, this transfer takes place with the coordination of the Iraqi government and within the framework of joint efforts to ensure the lasting defeat of ISIS and prevent the reconstruction of the operational structures of this group. American military officials have emphasized that keeping these prisoners safe and preventing any possible escape is an urgent priority in the unstable security situation of Syria.
Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, announced that US forces are implementing this mission in cooperation with their regional partners, especially the Iraqi government, and considered the regular transfer of ISIS prisoners to be a necessary step to maintain regional stability.
This action is taken while in recent weeks, field developments and changes in the balance of power in northeastern Syria have raised concerns about the security of prisons and camps where thousands of ISIS members are kept. According to American sources, a total of thousands of ISIS prisoners are still kept in Syria and it is possible that their transfer to Iraq will continue in the next stages.
