According to a Reuters report citing two security sources, the transfer took place on Wednesday and the troops were transferred to one of the military bases in Jordan, including the so-called Tower 22 base in the border region of Syria, Iraq and Jordan. According to this report, the transfer of equipment and troops was done in stages during the past days.

Al-Tanf base, which is located in the border triangle area of ​​Syria, Jordan and Iraq, was used as one of the main centers of operations of the international coalition against the ISIS group since 2014. Due to its geographical location, this base played an important role in controlling the land route between Syria and Iraq and monitoring the movements of armed groups in the Syrian Badia.

The French news agency, quoting Syrian military sources, announced that the withdrawal of American forces was carried out in the framework of the reorganization and reduction of the country's military presence in Syria. Some reports indicate that before the complete evacuation, military convoys carrying equipment and tools had left this base.

Following the withdrawal of the coalition forces, the Syrian and Iraqi media reported that the Syrian army has taken control of this strategic base and deployed its forces in and around it. According to these sources, the deployment of Syrian military units was accompanied by the establishment of checkpoints and the implementation of new security measures.

Al-Tanf base has been the target of drone and rocket attacks by militia groups many times in the past years. Before the recent developments in Syria in December 2024, this base was considered one of the most important centers of American military presence in Syria.
