According to Kurdpress, at the same time as the 27th anniversary of the arrest of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the defunct PKK party, the joint chairmanship of the Executive Council of the Union of Kurdistan Communities (KCK) issued a statement, condemning what it called an "international conspiracy" and called on the Kurds and "all peoples" to come forward with the slogan "Ocalan's freedom, the recognition of Syrian Kurdistan."
It is stated in this statement that Ocalan's arrest was carried out with the aim of preventing the realization of the "democratic Middle East" project and solving the Kurdish problem on the basis of "people's brotherhood". A project that, according to KCK, could pave the way for the democratization of the region. This council claimed that international and regional powers, with the cooperation of some actors, sought to eliminate Öcalan and weaken the PKK in order to maintain the existing order.
Referring to the widespread protests of Kurds in 1998 and 1999 in various parts of Kurdistan and Europe, KCK considered these reactions to be an obstacle to the realization of the goals of the "conspiracy" and emphasized that Ocalan continued to develop his political views during his 27 years of imprisonment in Amrali, despite the conditions of the prison, and proposed the "paradigm of democratic modernity."
In another part of the statement, the so-called "second international conspiracy" is mentioned. KCK considered the January 6 attacks on Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo to be a continuation of the same process and claimed that these actions were carried out with the aim of weakening the political model formed in the north and east of Syria.
Referring to the developments after the January 5 agreement known as the "Paris Agreement", this council announced that the attacks on the Kurdish areas of Syria were an attempt to hit the process of "peace and democratic society" and limit the achievements of the Kurds.
In the end, KCK asked all Kurds and "pro-democracy forces" to come to the stage with the slogan "Ocalan's freedom, recognition of Syrian Kurdistan" and emphasized that the struggle for Ocalan's freedom and stabilization of Syrian Kurdistan's political status will continue.
