Transferring the Emir of ISIS to Iraq; Elias Aydin among the sent prisoners

According to Kurdpress, in the continuation of the process of transferring ISIS members from Syria to Iraq, Elias Aydin nicknamed "Abu Obaydah", who is known as the "Emir of Istanbul" of ISIS, was also transferred to Iraq. He, who is one of the designers of the deadly attack in Souroch in 2015, has been in prison since 2019 after being arrested by the Syrian Democratic Forces. At the same time, Turkish authorities have announced an agreement with Baghdad for the extradition of ISIS prisoners with Turkish citizenship.

According to Mesopotamia, a senior ISIS member, Elias Aydin, known by the nickname "Abu Obaydah" and who was introduced as the "emir of Istanbul" of the group, is among the ISIS members who have been transferred to Iraq.

Aydin, who is wanted as one of the planners of the Sorouch (Pirsous) suicide attack in 2015, was arrested by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Deir ez-Zor in 2019 and taken to prison.

According to the extradition agreement between Türkiye and Iraq, it is possible to return these people to Türkiye if requested by Ankara.

In this regard, Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Anil Bura Erdin announced in a meeting in Baghdad yesterday that an agreement has been reached between Ankara and Baghdad regarding the extradition of ISIS prisoners who have Turkish citizenship and are kept in Iraqi prisons.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has also announced that the process of transferring ISIS members from Syria to Iraq was completed on the night of February 12, 2026. Earlier, it was reported that more than 5,700 ISIS members were transferred to Iraq in this context.
