The presidential candidate must be chosen by agreement

Iraq Service and Kurdistan Region - The head of the coordination office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party stated that the determination of the final candidate for the position of the president of Iraq, as a legal right, requires an internal agreement in Kurdistan, and said that the talks with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan to form a new regional government are nearing the final stage, but the political situation in Iraq and regional conflicts have delayed the process.

According to Kurdpress, Ali Hossein, the head of the coordination office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Sulaymaniyah, Halabja and Raparin, expressed his party's positions on the current issues of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in media statements.

Regarding the selection of the final candidate for the Iraqi presidential position, which is a Kurdish share - as per the political tradition, the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is a Sunni share and the post of the Prime Minister is a Shia share - he said: "It is necessary that we, as Kurds, reach an agreement among ourselves on a candidate for the presidential position."

He explained: "We have no problem with the president being from the Kurdistan Democratic Party or the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan or a neutral person. "It is important for us that Kurdistan is chosen in the mechanism, not that only one side decides on it." He also denied the existence of any internal differences in the Kurdistan Democratic Party about this issue.

Regarding the formation of the new government of Iraq and the position of the prime minister, he also said that they support any decision made by the Shiites

Ali Hossein said: "Iraq's Shiite parties have nominated Nouri al-Maliki, they can nominate anyone else. We support and cooperate with him in harmony with our society and Iraqi Sunnis."

He drew attention to the process of forming a new government in the Kurdistan Region and explained that after the elections, the joint delegations of the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan have held several meetings and have agreed on how to work and divide more ministerial positions.

He also announced the reason for the delay in the introduction of the new cabinet due to the political situation in Iraq and the region and said: "Due to issues related to the elections of the Iraqi parliament and political tensions in the region, the process of forming a new government has been slightly delayed.""

This Kurdistan Democratic Party official said: "It is expected that with the formation of the new Iraqi government and the reduction of tension in the region, the issues related to the Kurdistan region will be solved more easily." He demanded that all Kurdish parties participate in the future government.
