According to Kordpress, 33 world-renowned left-wing thinkers, by publishing a statement titled "International Right to Hope for Abdullah Ocalan", demanded the provision of the necessary legal conditions for Abdullah Ocalan to benefit from the "Right to Hope". This statement was sent to the embassy as well as senior European officials, including the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, the Vice President of the European Commission, the Permanent Rapporteur of the European Parliament on Turkish Affairs, the European Union Enlargement Commissioner and the Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation in Türkiye.
Referring to the passing of one year since the "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" dated February 27, 2025, the signatories announced that Öcalan presented a plan for democratic and peaceful national liberation, which is based on the historical coexistence of Turks, Kurds, Arabs and Persians, and rejects violence absolutely. The statement also states that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) announced its dissolution and ended the armed struggle, and in Syria, with Ocalan's call, the process of conflict has stopped and the process of integration has begun.
In the continuation of the statement, it is emphasized that the time has come to implement the "right to hope" and Öcalan should be able to continue his intellectual and political activities in a free environment and the Kurdish people should also hear the voice of their leader. The signatories have asked all the democratic, secular and progressive forces of the world to respond to this call.
Among the signatories of this statement, there are well-known figures from the fields of philosophy, sociology, political science, theology, and human rights activism; including Edgar Morin (French philosopher and sociologist), Alain Badiou (French philosopher), Giorgio Agamben (Italian philosopher), Gayatri Spivak (postcolonial theorist), Angela Davis (American civil rights activist), Nancy Fraser (American philosopher), Jacques Rancière (French philosopher), Slavi Žižek (Slovenian philosopher), Michael Hart (American political theorist), Leonardo Boff and Free Beto (Brazilian theologians), Axel Honte (German philosopher), Enzo Traverso (Italian historian), Judy Williams (Nobel Peace winner), Michael Louis (French-Brazilian sociologist) and a number of other prominent international professors and theorists.
This statement is a reflection of the effort of a part of the intellectual and academic circles of the world to raise again the issue of Abdullah Ocalan's legal status at the international level, which ultimately emphasizes the freedom of the leader in the PKK prison.
