Donald Trump committed worst crime against Syrian Kurds: daily

US President Donald Trump was the cause of Turkey's attack on the Syrian Kurds in 2019 and 2018, which led to their ethnic cleansing by Turkey, the Independent daily wrote in an article.

The Independent reports on the impact of US lack of support for the Syrian Kurds in the face of attacks by Turkey and its backed rebels, and blames current US President Donald Trump for the displacement and killing of Syrian Kurds.

The British newspaper noted that Donald Trump ordered US troops to leave northern Syria in 2019 before the Turkish invasion of the Kurds, and remained silent in the face of Turkey's 2018 invasion on the Kurdish region of Afrin in Syria, stressing that Trump was responsible for the displacement of the Syrian Kurds by Turkey and the Turkey affiliated Syrian rebels in Syria.

"Trump's worst crime, which was to pave the way for the purge of the Syrian Kurds, should not be forgotten," the newspaper stressed.

The Independent notes that tens of thousands of Syrian Kurds have been displaced since the two Turkish military operations against them in 2018 and 2019 and do not dare return to Kurdish areas such as Afrin.

The daily also referred to the looting of Kurdish property by Turkish-backed insurgents and wrote: "Turkey, as their main supporter, which is now unable to pay their monthly salaries, has turned a blind eye to the looting of Kurdish property."

"Erdogan wants to complete the process of purging the Syrian Kurds," the Independent quoted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying about a possible new attack on the Syrian Kurds.
