KDP sets condition for joining government formation in Baghdad

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has said it will participate in forming a new government in Baghdad if the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court verdict on the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) oil contracts is suspended.

A political source close to the KDP informed Voice of America (VOA) the KDP has asked the Shia parties to hold the court’s decision until Erbil and Baghdad reach an agreement.
The KDP has also requested that Iraqi President Barham Salih not to be nominated for president again.
Salih is the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) nominee for the office of president.
Shwan Mohammed, an MP from the KDP bloc in parliament, told VOA and the KDP’s preconditions come from the will of the KRG and its legal institutes.
Mohammed said the KDP and PUK Will hold talks and reach an agreement on the post of president and other positions jointly.
After the withdrawal of the Sadrist Movement, the KDP wants to be close with the Kurdish parties so they can stand together in meeting with the Shia parties.
MPs of the Sadrist Movement resigned from Iraq’s parliament on June 12.
