Iraq, Turkey presidents discuss strengthening bilateral ties

Iraqi President Latif Rashid received a phone call from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the state news agency on Saturday reported.

Rashid and Erdogan via a phone conversation discussed strengthening bilateral relations to achieve stability in the region, the Iraqi news agency said.

Turkey’s Erdogan has also extended his congratulations to Rashid for being elected president of Iraq. He further reiterated his country’s commitment to bolster the “historical” relations with Iraq, according to the Iraqi state media.

The Turkish President referred to cooperation that Turkey seeks to evolve with Iraq. Erdogan said joint efforts and cooperation help economic growth and ensure the region’s security and political stability.

In the meantime, President Rashid expressed words of gratitude to Erdogan for his words of congratulations in return.

Rashid importantly discussed the bilateral ties with Turkey, seeking to boost the ties in various fields in a manner that ensures both countries’ common interests.

The Iraqi President also said the ties must ensure progress and prosperity for the citizens of both nations.
