The warning of renewed infighting came after a team of Kurdish lawmakers visited Makhmour where residents have fled having been displaced after clashes on October 16.
“We will pressure the Kurdish and Iraqi government to meet the demands of Makhmour citizens and provide needed services,” said Iraqi Parliament lawmaker Zana Said during a press conference.
Control of Makhmour is disputed between Iraq's Kurdish autonomous region and Baghdad.
“People still live in fear of new clashes between the Peshmerga and Iraqi army,” he said.
According to NRT THE parliament members also called on the Iraqi government to withdraw forces and only station federal police to provide security in Makhmour.
They urged the people displaced, because of October 16 incidents, to return to their homes in Makhmour.
Peshmerga withdrew from Makhmour after the Iraqi forces entered the disputed areas in October.
The events in October started when federal troops and Hashid al-Shaabi retook the province of Kirkuk and its lucrative oil fields, as well as formerly Kurdish-held areas of Nineveh and Diyala provinces.
The 48-hour operation saw Kurdish forces and the region almost entirely returned to their longstanding three-province autonomous area in the north.
