The Kurdistan Parliament convened at 11:00 a.m. to name a candidate for the position of the KRG Prime Minister, with Barzani being the leading candidate.
The region’s parliament approved Barzani, who was the candidate of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), as the new KRG Premier with 87 votes from the 97 lawmakers who were present in the session, NRT reported.
Speaker Vala Farid said the parliament would send the decision to newly elected president Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday.
“So that he will task him with the formation of ninth cabinet of KRG so as to provide services to all the components of the Kurdistan Region,” Farid added during the session.
The New Generation caucus boycotted the session, which was left open by the parliament’s speaker on Monday after Nechirvan Barzani was sworn in as the new President of the Kurdistan Region.
