December 22 this year was appointed by the Cabinet as the date for provincial elections to be held, NRT reported.
“The Cabinet reviewed preparations for parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 May 2018, and approved the establishment of a ministerial committee, reporting directly to the Prime Minister, to coordinate government support for Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC),” the official website of the Iraqi government said.
The last election took place in April 2014 when the State of Law alliance of former prime minister Nuri al-Maliki won most of the votes but fell short of an overall majority.
