IHEC released a statement on Wednesday, May 30, saying the legal and technical committee has cancelled votes of 954 polling stations across the country.

On 21 May, IHEC announced it had cancelled the votes from 102 polling stations in five provinces across the country over complaints and appeals, NRT reported.

Seven stations were cancelled in Erbil, 51 in Anbar province, 17 in Baghdad, 11 in Saladin and 16 in Nineveh, the statement read.

The commission has now added 852 other polling stations were also cancelled after investigating 2000 stations across the country.

The polling stations which were cancelled are as 73 in Erbil, 50 in Anbar, 96 in Sulaimani, 6 in Baghdad, 224 in Duhok, 2 in Diyala, 36 in Saladin, 179 in Nineveh, and 186 in Kirkuk.

The electoral commission also cancelled votes of diaspora from 67 polling stations in Germany, Jordan, the United States, Sweden, Britain, and Turkey.

Iraq’s electoral commission introduced an electronic voting and vote counting to eliminate electoral fraud. Several parties, however, complained about the new system, calling for manual counting of votes.

Office of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, said on May 24 that a special committee appointed by the Iraqi cabinet would investigate allegations of electoral fraud during the election.
