Erdogan's new verbal threat against Kurds was a message to the US: politician

A Syrian Kurdish politician said that the US strategy was to create a balance between the Kurds and the Kurdish enemies in the region, and the recent remarks by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against the Syrian Kurds intended to declare that the US should not pay too much attention to the Kurds.

Rezan Nasan, a member of the Syrian Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDKS) and former head of the Euphrates Regional Culture Office, told KurdPress that Erdogan's threats were serious and that he would use any opportunity to attack Kurds.

"Erdogan's new threats are a message to the new US administration and [US President Joe] Biden," the Kurdish politician said.

Mr. Nasan added: "The US strategy is to create a balance between the Kurds and the Kurdish enemies in the region, and with this message, Erdogan intends to declare that the US should not pay too much attention to the Kurds."

He further stated that: "There is no possibility of a new military and expansionist attack by Turkey on Syrian Kurdistan and Iraqi Kurdistan, but airstrikes would continue, especially since Turkey was defeated in its recent operation in Gare (Iraqi Kurdistan)."

Erdogan announced two days ago that no country should blame Turkey for attacking "terrorists" and its army will operate wherever it needs to.

The Turkish president made the remarks a day after 11 members of the army were killed in Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)-controlled caves where the forces were being held captive by the PKK.
