Deployed from the Navy Hospital in Jacksonville, the US Sailors conducted mass casualty training at Erbil Air Base, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, on December 16, the international coalition said in a statement.

"The exercise was conducted to test the preparedness of the medical personnel and to find vulnerabilities that need improvement during events involving mass casualties," he said.

The statement did not give further details.

The United States maintains more than 5,000 troops deployed at bases in a number of Iraqi provinces and Kurdistan.
