Baghdad does not want to fill security gaps in disputed areas: advisor

Announcing the sharp increase in the number of ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria, the military adviser to the Kurdistan Region President, Nachirvan Barzani, stressed that "terrorists were exploiting security gaps between Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in the disputed areas as the central government does not want to fill the gap in the areas.

According to Awena Kurdish newsbase, Babakr Zebari said in an interview with the official website of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) that: "The international coalition will bomb the positions of ISIS elements when it feels a threat from the group. The coalition feels the number of the terrorist elements have increased and has turned into a very serious threat."
Zebari added: "One of the reasons behind the increase in ISIS activities is the differences between the central government and a large number of provinces."
"On the other hand, according to the information we have received, the number of ISIS elements in Iraq and Syria has increased. The country has many problems in comparison with other countries, and this has led to an increase in the elements of the terrorist organization in this country."
The advisor to the head of the Kurdistan Region President went on to add: "The border areas between the settlement of the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces, such as Qara Chogh, etc., are mountainous, and the ISIS is exploiting the security vacuum in these areas and reorganizing its elements and, by creating various projects, it takes money from the residents, and considering that this area is safe haven for them, it has become a good situation for the terrorist group."
Zebari, also a former head of the Iraqi Joint Chiefs of Staff, noted that "the ISIS elements hide among Sunni villagers during the day and operate at night. For this reason, it is necessary to fill the security gap in these areas. But the central government has no intention to fill the gap. Because they have not yet agreed to the establishment of joint security coordination committees between the central government forces and the Peshmerga forces, and this issue has remained at the level of attempting to be implemented and has not reached the implementation stage.
