Iraq's semi-official al-Sabah newspaper reported on Sunday, quoting four members of the Council of Representatives from the Sauron, Fatah, Sadeghon and Construction sectors.
It seems that initial agreements to determine the final position of the federal prime minister have been reached and the new PM is expected to be appointed to form a new cabinet this week, according to The Associated Press.
The Council of Representatives member Riyadh Al-Massoudi said, "The political groups came to the conviction that it was necessary to select a person who is compatible with the nature of the current stage and not the demands of the parties. As a result, they were moved from the phase of the political recession to a practical and serious move to choose such a character in order to manage without difficulty in the transitional stage."
Al-Massoudi predicted that the few days ahead would witness the end of the crisis of the selection of a new Prime Minister based on the characteristics of the people's satisfaction and the religious authority. The transitional phase, which will be determined, will be based on a political agreement, since the constitution did not address it, while the early elections could not be specified unless it is published in an official newspaper.
The Sauron Alliance's representative added: The publication of such a law is subject to completion of the attachments that were commissioned by a parliamentary and state committee to prepare for the determination of the number of provinces and districts, in addition to the security and political stability.
In a similar position, Mohammed Al-Baldawi, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives from the Fatah Coalition, confirmed the preliminary agreement of the Shia groups to appoint a specific candidate as the prime minister and announce his name this week. Political groups reached an deal to introduce a person accepted for the presidency of the next government, and Shia groups will introduce the man this week. The Al-Badr Alliance, led by Hadi Ameri, said: The political groups of other factions (Kurds and Sunnis) informed the Shiite groups that they will not oppose our choice if we agree on a new and accepted person.
For his part, Ahmed Al-Kinani, another member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, announced the existence of a new mechanism for the election of an independent government, noting that the final candidate for the post of prime minister will be announced soon. According to the representative of the Sadeghon Fraction, a member of the Asaeb Ahl Haq Movement led by Qais Khaz Ali, stated "We have not yet decided to hold a position. The coming days will witness the settlement of many issues, particularly the formation of a new government and the issue of the presence of foreign forces. The convergence between the major poles within the political process will also contribute to selecting a government away from political quotas. Mukhtar Al-Musawi, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, said that the three candidates were nominated for the Federal Government's Prime Minister. The three are presidential advisor Ali Shukri, Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi, and a military figure, Shukri, who has a better chance for taking office.
At the current time, there is a more important issue than the election of a prime minister, which is the issue of the U.S. military presence and the upcoming demonstrations.
