Constitution should recognise Kurdish language: HDP

Turkey pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) issued a written statement to mark Kurdish Language Day and "demanded that Kurdish be protected and recognized by the Constitution and that the obstacles to language should be removed.”

The HDP issued a written statement to mark 15 May, Kurdish Language Day.
The statement stressed on the importance of protecting the Kurdish language and stated "protecting this valuable language is our primary duty and the basis of our political struggle. As long as our language is not free, our personality, thoughts and existence won’t be free. The Kurdish language is like a big tree whose roots go deep into human history."
The statement continued: "The oppression and assimilation of the Kurdish language has not decreased throughout the history of the Kurds, and this is true the most in this century. Because the rulers know very well that the way to destroy a society is to destroy their language. Against these assimilation policies, we demand that Kurdish be protected and recognized by the Constitution. Kurdish should be the language of education and all obstacles to language activities should be removed. Happy Kurdish Language Day."
